Bottom line: The 3.2 km East Coast Park cycling extension opens in two phases starting Saturday, 12 July. Phase one — Marine Parade to Siglap — is operational from 6 a.m.; phase two, linking Siglap to the existing Bedok connector, follows on 16 July. NParks confirmed overnight that shared pedestrian zones near food centres will remain at reduced speed limits during peak weekend hours.
The extension has been under construction since March 2025, delayed twice by monsoon-season groundworks. It closes a gap that forced cyclists onto East Coast Parkway service roads or a detour through residential streets in Siglap. For weekend riders and commute cyclists heading to the CBD via the coastal route, the connector removes the most hazardous segment of the eastern park network.
Phase one: what opens Saturday
Lane one runs 1.8 km from Marine Parade Road junction to Siglap Avenue, separated from the main park footpath by rubber-post bollards and a painted buffer. Width is 2.5 metres — enough for two-abreast recreational riding but not designed for peloton training. NParks signage at entry points lists a 15 km/h advisory limit in shared zones near McDonald's and East Coast Lagoon Food Village.
Two carpark bays — Carpark C1 and C2 — will have temporary lane closures between 5:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday for final line marking. Cyclists should approach from the Marine Parade end if arriving before 7 a.m.; the Siglap entry opens at 7:30 a.m. on day one only.
Phase two and traffic management
Phase two, operational from 16 July, completes the link to the existing Bedok park connector. A short shared zone near the Siglap canal bridge will remain — NParks rejected a full separation here due to embankment width constraints. Cyclists must dismount for a 40-metre stretch; signs are already installed.
LTA will run weekend traffic marshals at Marine Parade Road crossing points from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the first two Saturdays. No full road closures are planned, but motorists should expect slower traffic near the park entrance as cyclists queue at the crossing.
What cyclists should bring
Lighting is not mandatory on park connectors but recommended for pre-dawn rides — phase one opens at 6 a.m. while light levels are still low in July. Bell or verbal warning is required in shared zones. E-scooters remain banned on the new lane; enforcement officers will patrol the first weekend.
City desk is monitoring weekend traffic plans and will publish a short update Friday if phase-one closures change. For MRT alternatives, Marine Parade station on the Thomson-East Coast Line is a six-minute walk from the new lane entry.
